In an effort to make a plug for myself and fellow artists selling their original art on eBay, I would like to take the time to give you some tips and/or tricks to help narrow down your search for that perfect painting.
There are thousands or listings on eBay for paintings. Any style, color, or medium you can imagine...it's here. There are paintings from all over the world! One way to narrow you search is by specifying what country to search. I personally completely cut out items from Asia....there is a flooding from there!! For instance, if you do a search for "Modern Abstract Painting" listed Directly by the Artist (not a reseller)...you will get around 10,000 listings! Of those, about half are from Asia!! From Advanced Search and from the menu selections on the left of the category listings you can greatly narrow your choices. And in some cases, you exclude mass produced items that are nothing more than "paint by numbers" work reproduced from images of other artists. Certain areas of the world do this alot...and you can tell by the numbers!!
Narrow your search by price or utilize the "Make an Offer" feature. You know what you want to spend and what you can afford. There is no need to search every listing if you know there are many out of your personal price limits. It is fun to look though! Many artists are giving you the option to make an offer on their work. I say Go FOR IT!!...but don't insult! Be reasonable with your offer. Again, it wouldn't make sense to offer an artist $10 for a painting listed with a buy it now price of $300 dollars.
Be Wary...read the title and description fully. Investigate and research before you purchase. Notice the title and how it's written. There are a lot of reputable artist who include their name in the title and/or description. To me this points out that it is an ORIGINAL being sold by the artist. After all, that artist is getting exposure, and you in turn learn to recognize their listings from numerous others. But remember, not all of us list this way.
Contact the seller/artist. A reputable artist won't mind if you contact them with questions. Once again, it wouldn't make sense to purchase a piece listed as original when you see a duplicate of it listed by someone else. Ask Questions...the artist knows their work and should be happy to satisfy your need to know.
These are just a few tips to help narrow you search for ORIGINAL ART by REPUTABLE ARTISTS. We are many on eBay...you can find us!
